The Oceanside Sanctuary
I serve as the Co-Lead Pastor for a progressive Christian church in North San Diego County. This has been a transformation project. When I took this on in 2015, the church had dwindled to about 40 active members after 45-years of decline. Today, it is a vibrant and growing queer-affirming, egalitarian community of about 500 people who are actively engaged in community organizing for food security, anti-racism, police reform, and other social justice issues.
The Collective Table Podcast
The Collective Table is where my fellow co-minister and spouse Jenell Coker and I explore theology, ministry, culture, social justice issues, and the changing landscape of Christianity. Episodes include author interviews, long-form story-telling, and seasonal contemplative reflections.
Decolonizing Religious Dis/Affiliation
I am currently engaged in Ph.D. research through the Center for Missiological Research at Fuller Theological Seminary. My project is an empirical study exploring how the rise of women’s religious disaffiliation in the U.S. may be understood as a symptom of the coloniality of gender in American Global North Christianities. My research disciplines include decolonizing mission, gender and sexuality in Christianity, intercultural theology, the anthropology of Christianity, and the sociology of religious disaffiliation in the United States.
