Jason Coker is a progressive Christian pastor and scholar whose research lies at the intersection of missiology, decoloniality, intercultural theology, anthropology of religion, and human development.

Otherwise Christian is where he explores these topics and how they point toward emerging possibilities for the future of faith in the American Global North.

Alongside his spouse, Jenell Coker, Jason serves as the Co-Lead Pastor of The Oceanside Sanctuary, a progressive Christian church in Oceanside, California and is ordained with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Jason earned his M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary, where he is currently completing Ph.D. research on the rise of women’s religious disaffiliation in the U.S. as a symptom of the coloniality of gender in American Global North Christianities. Since 2013, he has served as a part-time member of the Human Development faculty at California State University San Marcos, where he teaches nonprofit leadership, social policy, anti-racism, and theories of human development.
